HIGHLANDER #0 (July 2006), by Brandon Jerwa, with Michael Avon Oeming; art by Lee Moder
Dynamite Entertainment’s debut issue of the new Highlander series continues the tales of the immortal Connor MacLeod, following MacLeod’s last battle with the Kurgan at the end of the first movie. I grabbed this 25-cent comic book hoping that it wouldn’t be another Quickening-like sequel, but so far, it’s not all that interesting. Hopefully issue #1 will liven the story up a bit.

NEW AVENGERS #22 (July 2006), by Brian Michael Bendis; art by Leinil Yu
In the limited seven-issue Civil War event, a government-imposed Superhero Registration Act pits the superheroes of the Marvel universe against one another. The series has countless tie-ins to nibble on while piecing together the entire picture, my favorite so far being the Luke Cage arc in the New Avengers line.

THE DIAMOND AGE (1995), by Neal Stephenson
I have read this twice now. It is a mammoth tale and even now the technology and futuristic world that Mr. Stephenson has cunningly created is so mind-bending that you can’t help but want a Matter Compiler instead of your microwave in your kitchen after you have read it. There is no simple way to sum this book up — it really is a wild ride and the attention to detail and complicated characters are astounding!

Star Trek Memories (1993), by William Shatner with Chris Kreski
Watching the Saturday Star Trek TOS Uncut marathons on the G4 Network (see these, not Trek 2.0!) recently prompted me to reread Shatner’s memoir, which examines a lot of behind the scenes history of the show. For that, this book is a highly informative and entertaining read.
I don’t read books; I only read the Geeks of Doom!
