Howdy Doom’ers,
I wanted to update y’all on what’s been going on with G.o.D. for the past half day.
Well, our soon-to-be former web hosting company (2mhost.com) decided that after one G.o.D.’s best days ever, traffic and participation-wise, they would take the opportunity to move us to a new server at 12 o’clock on a Friday afternoon. In the process of this move, they completely erased our entire article database, wordpress installation, and just about any part necessary to make G.o.D. accessible to the world.
Good going, guys!
Ok, so after around 16 hours of a wading through a circle of sheer tech-support hell that I wouldn’t even wish upon my enemies, one intrepid IT guru stepped up to the plate and was able to completely restore us to working order in just over 5 minutes.
Thank you, Rachel. You deserve a raise.
I would love to say that now it’s back to business as usual, but this incident, along with the amazing traffic we’ve been getting these past few weeks, has made it abundantly clear to us that we need to find a more suitable host for our needs. So at some point during the upcoming week we’re gonna be migrating G.o.D. to a new host server. This means that there will be some further periods of disconnectivity (yeah, not a real word) as we make the transition, and I’ll do my best to keep y’all posted as we go forward with the move.
Thank you all for being so patient with us during this outage!
Cheers,
Dave3
