- JACKASS NUMBER 2 was the No. 1 movie in the country over the weekend. Johnny Knoxville and his pals raked in $28.1 million, easily defeating runner-up JET LI’S FEARLESS, which earned $10.6 million.
- An animated series based on Mel Brooks‘ 1987 STAR WARS spoof is heading to the G4 network. SPACEBALLS: THE ANIMATED SERIES will debut next fall. Brooks, who co-wrote the pilot, will voice two of the characters – President Skroob and Yogurt, the same one he played in the movie. [Link]
- Justin Long, best known for those Mac commercials and DODGEBALL, has joined the cast of LIVE FREE OR DIE HARD, the fourth installment in the Bruce Willis franchise.
- Russell Crowe supposedly wants to play the late crocodile hunter Steve Irwin in a bio-pic. [Link]
- Another unfinished Tolkien tale will be completed and published next spring. J.R.R. Tolkien began writing the tale — THE CHILDREN OF HURIN — in 1918, but later abandoned it. The author’s son Christopher Tolkien has worked on finishing the book for the past 30 years. [Link]
- The BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER comic book series is now scheduled to launch this March with a four-part series. As previously reported by Geeks of Doom, the eighth season of the canceled TV show will be in comic book form with Buffy creator Joss Whedon writing and art by Georges Jeanty. [Link, with new art.]
- The complete second season of the BBC’s new DOCTOR WHO series will be released on DVD in the U.S. on January 16, 2007.
