| Bytes: Borat Conquers Box Office |
- BORAT had a glorious opening weekend at the box office. The outrageous comedy, starring Sacha Baron Cohen, was the no. 1 movie in the country with $26.4 million — despite being released in only 837. In comparison, the weekend’s no. 2 movie, THE SANTA CLAUSE 3: THE ESCAPE CLAUSE, was released in 3,458 theaters. The Tim Allen movie made $20 million.
- Sam Elliot has been cast as Lee Scoresby in THE GOLDEN COMPASS, the first film adaptation of Philip Pullman‘s HIS DARK MATERIALS trilogy. [Link]
- Move over, George Takei! Doogie Howser has come out of the closet. Neil Patrick Harris, the onetime TV teen doctor, has admitted to being gay. The 33-year-old actor, who is currently starring in the CBS sitcom HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER, told People magazine’s website, “[I] am quite proud to say that I am a very content gay man living my life to the fullest.”
- The ShowTime series DEXTER, starring SIX FEET UNDER‘s Michael C. Hall as a police department forensics expert who moonlights as a serial killer who murders serial killers, has been picked up for a second season for 12 hour-long episodes. [Link]
- SciFi.com has two new trailers up: a teaser trailer for EVAN ALMIGHTY, the sequel to 2003’s BRUCE ALMIGHTY starring Steve Carell; and a live-action trailer for BEE MOVIE, a CGI-animated film featuring Jerry Seinfeld, Eddie Izzard, and Chris Rock. [Link]
