Secrets of Egypt's Lost Queen DVDSecrets of Egypt’s Lost Queen

How does one track down someone missing for three and a half millennia? Where does one look to begin the search for their remains? How do you propose to explain what made this person disappear? All of these questions and more are answered in the Discovery Channel’s recent release Secrets of Egypt’s Lost Queen.

Queen Hatshepsut’s reign was marked with great achievements and advancements. She began the golden age of Egypt and is credited with foraging unprecedented trade exhibitions, launching some of largest in building schemes, and keeping Egypt unified against outside explorers. However, all of Hatshepsut’s achievements became downplayed because all pictures, references, and hieroglyphics extolling her as a ruler, or even her simple existence, were obliterated.

The Discovery Channel presents a well balanced biography complete with period flashbacks (that only the Discovery Channel and History Channel have mastered), archaeological, and scientific expert support, and the beauty, and often tragedy, of Egyptian history. I have always enjoyed Egyptian history. It is more than interesting to learn about dynasties that are more than five millennia old that still stupefy us today. This DVD draws you in and presents the story of Hatshepsut a la CSI, as archaeologists use new forensic techniques to uncover the mysteries of this lost queen.

Complete with murder, intrigue, stealth, and greed, the biography flows like a well oiled Matlock or Detective Poirot mystery.

There are no additional scenes or director commentaries offered on this DVD. Following the usual format of the Discovery Channel’s biographies, there are no bonus features, but they are not needed. We have been presented with the mummy of Hatshepsut, how she died, who ordered her systematic erasure from Egyptian history, and why she was erased, so who needs deleted scenes? The Discovery Channel has answered questions that have been boggling the minds of scientists and historians for hundreds of years. It is awesome to have shared in their discovery and remarkable that a single tooth was the key to one of histories greatest mysteries.
