Today, director Zack Snyder has updated the film’s production blog to include a first look at five characters from the upcoming film.

  1. Honestly, I think the characters look good, and faithful to the original artwork. Alan Moore probably will bitch about this movie like he does with everything based on his stories, but I think/hope it will kick arse.

  2. Who let Ozymandias have the batman nipple suit? I didn’t realize Joel Schumacher was involved with Watchmen. Ugh.

  3. I think they look pretty damn cool.

Many people are comparing them to the Schumacher Batman costumes, and I wouldn’t necessarily say that comparison is unfounded… But think about it… Those costumes (minus the “sexualizing” of them) were actually kinda cool! Well-sculpted, well-designed. I still consider Robin’s second costume to be the coolest and closest we’ll ever get to an honest-to god Nightwing costume on screen. Shitty movies… GREAT costumes.

It’s not in line with the realistic approach most comic movies take today, but I’m… actually okay with that. As far as I’m concerned, this movies is riffing on the classic image of the movie superhero just like the original comic riffed on the classic image of the comic book superhero.

As for Ozy’s nipples, if you know the character and his background, the costume makes more sense. I actually consider this to be a more faithful respresentation of the character’s theme than the original gold getup.

(his head is a bit small, though…)

  6. So I’m assuming Dr. Manhattan’s look will be done via post-production…

  7. Where is Doctor Manhattan? Ohhhh he could be anywhere!

  8. Yo, the Comedian looks awesome! Rorschach is slightly disappointing, I can’t wait to see that mask morph!, the others don’t quite seem to fit their characterization in the comics. Nite Owl seems too cool, the Spectre seems too hot. I can’t wait to see Dr. Manhattan! Still – it’s looking great – after the Wachowskis, Snyder would be my pick to bring Watchmen to the big screen.

  9. Are they supposed to look cheesey?

    Only Rorschach looks badass
