Saints Rise Again with ‘Boondock’ Sequel

The Movie God   |  @   |

Boondock SaintsI am a very happy, happy movie fan today.

Troy Duffy, genius-to-be who was lost in the carnage that is Hollywood, as well as the writer/director of The Boondock Saints, has posted a video officially announcing the sequel that the entire cult following has been clawing and scratching for like Britney Spears at a “Free Crack Samples” stand — The Boondock Saints: All Saints Day.

There’s a documentary called Overnight that shows the story of Duffy and his band/friends/family as they blow up on the scene, selling Boondock and getting a record contract — followed by the seemingly immediate crash and burn as he tried too hard to make it all happen his way with some big wigs that just don’t take too kindly to being pushed. Anyone who has seen this movie will indeed worry about this sequel announcement and how it is ACTUALLY going. If Duffy has learned his lessons, I expect that it will go fine and we will see this play out… if he’s stuck with old habits, don’t go crazy just yet!

We’ll always wonder what the first movie would have been if it went as well as it looked like it was going to go; if Troy Duffy was to become the next huge thing, the next Tarantino, if they would have had all the budget and time they wanted… but would you really want it any different than it is now? Sure it’s got flaws and you can tell where budget and some better supporting cast could have helped, but the main characters and the way it all played out was some hard, rugged brilliance that this movie fan will always adore. I’m sure I’m not alone there.

As per the announcement, All Saints Day has been picked up by Sony Pictures Studios and is looking to start shooting this summer.

Fingers crossed that this happens as spoken!

Stay tuned kids.

  3. I would really like to know where you found that video, because the last time Troy said there was going to be a sequel was over a year and a half ago. So lets see the video for ourselves.

  5. Unbelievable. How many chances do you give the world’s most arrogant prick?
Hopefully they’ll give him another bar and it’ll go out of business again. What a waste of money and time.

  7. Sony? Sorry fan boys, it’s going to suck and any life it might have had will be ripped out.

Name me one good Sony movie…

    Go on..I’m waiting ;)

    Comment by Roomtone — March 19, 2008 @ 6:38 pm

  8. One more thing, Sony and Sony Pictures Classics are completely different things. So any Sony movie you can think of that doesn’t suck is probably a Sony Pictures Classic and not Sony Pictures.

Sony can’t make a movie to save it’s life.

Sony Pictures Classics is just distribution, not a studio.

  9. I agree with Mathlete. It wasn’t that Hollywood chewed him up and spit him out, it was that he was a complete hack and after being called on it, lost his shit and couldn’t deliver on his first movie, let alone on any subsequent work.

Is he going to “do it right” this time?

  12. I wasn’t a huge fan of the film but I did like the documentary, ‘Overnight.’ By the time I was done with it, I was hating the guy too. Who gives a crap what your vision is or what your demands are? If you can’t be a decent human being to people (family, friends, associates) you DESERVE to lose whatever you’ve earned.
Being a genius is nothing if you don’t have the capacity to deal with people and see your visions through. It’s the nature of the beast. I don’t work in film and I understand that so how hard is it for HIM to see it?
And if you want to go it yourself and call your own shots, be prepared to raise the money yourself to do it and distribute it. Otherwise, when you’re playing with other peoples’ money, you do what they tell you. Even in art, film and literature.
That’s why indie film and indie music scenes were created: so the little guys could do it themselves. They eventually toppled the big guys and became big guys themselves. Now it’s probably time for the big guys to topple again.
Like I said, nature of the beast…don’t hate the game, hate the player in this case.

  14. Can’t fucking wait to see the sequel.

    Comment by Stunna Shades — March 19, 2008 @ 11:08 pm

  15. Surely Hollywood is a cruel meat grinder, but the Troy Duffy we saw in “Overnight” was a tool of the first order. I imagine he was using the “act as if” method (so common in reality shows now) in an effort to advance his career; to that extent, I truly feel for the guy. But man, if “Overnight” is at all accurate, Duffy truly engineered his own failure. So much so, that his story might even make for a perversely pitiable tragedy…if “Boondock Saints” didn’t suck so bad. It’s transparently contrived and melodramatic; it doesn’t work, and it’s embarrassing to watch. The overuse of “fuck” in the script reflects a high school concept of badassness that is both tired and ineffective. “Boondock Saints” works best alongside “Overnight” as a lesson in how famous genius calls for more than a willingness to be a famous genius. Good for him that he can cash in on it now, but it’s not like it’s going to be “Chimes at Midnight.”

  20. I do not understand why you people are on this website whining and moaning about how much you hate this bloke and his movies, if you don’t like the stuff he does, don’t waste your time telling his fans about it, unless you have nothing better to do, in which case go get yourself a life. I so stoked for the sequal to this movie!!!!!

  25. It would be great if there was a sequel. Don’t know how they could top the original. I’m not a movie critic fag, but that was a great movie. If any of the dorks that talk crap about this movie could come up with a better story they wouldn’t be trashing stuff on the internet.

    Comment by mclovin — August 10, 2008 @ 1:31 am

  26. I can’t wait for the sequel to hit theaters. Norman Reedus and Sean Patrick Flannery do a really good job in this movie. I can’t seem to get enough of “The Boondock Saints”. I think all of the movie pulled together nicely. Let’s just see all of these naysayers pull out a movie this good and then they can talk trash. But until they do, they can just take their negative comments and shove them where the sun doesn’t shine. To Sean and Norman, keep up the good work. And thank you for a job well done.

  27. I SAW BOB MARLEY (DETECTIVE GREENLY) WHILE HE WAS DOING ONE OF HIS COMEDY ACTS HERE IN MAINE AND HE SAID THEY WERE GOING INTO PRODUCTION FOR “ALL SAINTS DAY” IN SEPTEMBER ’08 AND RON JEREMY WAS ON THE RADIO TALKING ABOUT #2 STARTING PRODUCTION IN THE END OF ’08 SO I WOULD SAY IT’S COMING OUT

  29. fuck you ha boondock saints is the best movie ever so shut your fucking face

    Comment by fuck you ha — November 11, 2008 @ 9:10 pm

  30. It’s completely incoherent. It feels like it was just a bunch of scenes featuring cool guys, guns, smoking, and bullet time.

Here’s the story- two religious brothers get attacked, then get a vision from God, then go around killing mafiosos, they gain an ally in law enforcement, they lose a friend when they try and take down the big boss, then they decide to go public with their long-lost father, who happens to be the world’s best contract killer in history.

I don’t know if I could come up with a better story than that, but I know plenty of people who do, and they’re not asking for millions of dollars to put it on the screen. I’m not going to pay ten bucks to see a movie just because it’s better than I could make.

In a good movie, every scene, every dialogue, every word has a point. There are no irrelevant jokes- every joke that’s made adds to the profile of the character who said it. Quentin Tarantino makes great movies because he understands that. Troy Duffy just made a bunch of bullet time sequences and pointless jokes and taped them to a crappy plot.

  31. Boondock Saints is my favorite movie, and I am really happy to hear about the making of a second one. I don’t care about the politics surrounding Troy Duffy, I enjoy a movie for the story, not who made it. I think that many people just didn’t understand the movie and are saying mean things to cover up their ignorance…

    Comment by Erin — February 25, 2009 @ 9:09 pm

  32. I happen to love Boondock Saints, I have probably watched it a hundred times, lol.. Norman and Sean were great, the story was pulled together very well.. If people don’t like the movie and say it was so bad, why would you waste your time to read an article on it and proceed to talk trash to fans of the movie?.. that just shows how little brainpower you use, and you probably just couldn’t keep up with the story line..

    Comment by Erin — February 25, 2009 @ 9:13 pm

  33. Seriously…..just saw a trailer, so it’s coming?!!! ALL SAINTS DAY……OHHHH YEAH!!!!
