I had never heard of the American Girl dolls, so the movie based on them — Kit Kittredge: An American Girl — was not really on my radar.

Then when a rep (who’s not in movie promo) came into town recently to take me out to lunch, she brought along her 10-year-old daughter so they could stop at the American Girl store (which I didn’t know existed). That’s when I remembered hearing something about an American Girl movie starring Abigail Breslin.

Unfortunately, I didn’t know much more than that, so I thought I’d keep my eye out on the film from now on. Turns out, a trailer is already out, which you can watch here below.

Looks like movie tickets are available now for a special 10-day exclusive theatrical run of Kit Kittredge: An American Girl in select cities — Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, Dallas, and Atlanta — which begins on June 20, 2008. The purchase of each premium ticket ($20) comes with a limited edition t-shirt; additionally, those who purchase a ticket with an American Express Card will also receive a full-color collector’s edition program.

Synopsis

In the first feature film based on the hugely popular American Girl(R) book series, Breslin (“Little Miss Sunshine”) stars as a resourceful young girl whose bravery, compassion and determination help her solve a mystery that saves her family’s home during the Great Depression. “Kit Kittredge: An American Girl” is directed by Patricia Rozema (“Mansfield Park”) from a screenplay by Ann Peacock (“The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe”).
