So, recently we discussed Beverly Hills Cop 4 and Brett Ratner possibly directing it. (Read that little ditty here — Brett Ratner To Direct Beverly Hills Cop 4?)
Well, MTV had a little article in which Mr. Ratner said some things that might make one or two or maybe all Beverly Hills Cop fans shit in their collective pants.
The specific quote in question goes a little something like this:
10-year-old kids, 12-year-old kids don’t really know the old ‘Beverly Hills Cop.’ So it’s an opportunity to make it new for kids. The same way it felt for me watching ‘Beverly Hills Cop’ when I was a kid, that’s what I want to do for kids today.
Kids. Ha!
Note, he said 10 and 12 year old, NOT 13. The way this sounds is that Brett Ratner wants to make a Beverly Hills Cop movie that’s LESS offensive than The Nutty Professor (What, no fart jokes?) — a PG-rated Axel Foley! Considering how Eddie Murphy has learned more towards kid-friendly films, away from his heavily R-rated roots, this would seem logically for the former foul-mouthed comedian. But why change the franchise? Why not just do a new cop movie then?
But I actually kind of hope this happens. For all of the people who really think that they can make all these R-rated movies into PG-13, let’s see how one works out when turned “family friendly.” I personally was but a wee little child when these movies came out and believe-it-or-not, I’ve not seen them, so it wouldn’t hurt my feelings like some others and it might open some eyes finally!
My heart does goes out to the fans of the series if this goes down disastrously.
When does something give, folks?
They should leave it alone.
Really, this is pathetic.

I hope there won’t be another BC movie.
