Earlier this week, multiple news bits came from the Saturn Awards; now, there’s a whole new collection of goodies for us! Who would have guess that these awards would have brought so much news? Not I!
Many props to Frosty from Collider, who went straight wild at the Saturn Awards, talking to Matt Reeves about the Cloverfield sequel and Zack Snyder about a 300 prequel/sequel. He even caught up with 300 producers Mark Canton, Gianni Nunnari, and Bernie Goldmann who were reluctant, but eventually shared a good amount about the 300 sequel, as well as another upcoming project, War of Gods.
Biggest and best of all, we’ll start with the producers. They mentioned that they are indeed hoping to make a 300 prequel/sequel. This has been spoken of and I think for the most part it was expected, but here’s confirmation that they want to get it done. At the moment, they’re just looking to put it in the hands of Frank Miller and see if he can put a great story together; I’m sure with all that was going on back then, there’s plenty to do with it.
My vote is for a 120-minute movie of JUST that final battle with the 10,000 Spartans; I know we all wanna see that nightmare unfold. Naturally, people will hate the idea of a sequel, but what can I say … prequel or sequel, if that put that world in front of me again, I’m going to want to watch it and there’s nothing my sub-conscience can do about it. Along with all that fun, talk arose of another completely new, yet similar project. This one is called War of Gods and apparently it’s completely epic. It also follows the whole Greek mythology lines and deals specifically with a massive war between the Gods, Titans, and humans. Now, these men were asked if this was the video game adaptation of God of War — which is also on the way — and they said that it wasn’t. Now, this brings some issues for me, because I’m a massive fan of God of War and the idea of it being a movie, but this description of War of Gods (stay with me!) is very similar sounding. Hopefully they both get made, both be amazing with bright, distinguishing qualities. The big news along with this was that they got the mysterious one-name director Tarsem to direct. If you’ve seen The Cell, or even this trailer for The Fall, you can see what this dude can do visually, and this makes this project incredibly attractive to someone like me, who’s a complete sucker for anything in that genre/topic range.
After talking to these fine gents, Zack Snyder was hauled down to discuss many things and maybe confirm these 300 rumblings, which he absolutely did, saying that if Frank Miller comes up with something good, maybe they’ll have at it. Check out Collider talking to Zack Snyder.
Collider also spoke with Matt Reeves about the Cloverfield sequel — which is “in limbo” until they do or do not find a suitable story — Check out Collider talking to Matt Reeves.
