TV Guide will feature David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson as everyone’s favorite special FBI agents Mulder and Scully on the cover of the July 14th issue.
The upcoming X-Files movie, The X-Files: I Want To Believe, has been so shrouded in secrecy from the start that very little is known about the story except that it was made to be a standalone tale that takes place six years after the previous movie — X-Files: Fight For The Future — ended, which would bring it up to current time. Also, that this film will take Mulder and Scully’s complicated relationship in unexpected directions.
In the X-Files cover story, Duchovny, who played Fox Mulder on the long-running Fox television series, said that Mulder and Scully have not changed over the years and that they still feel the same way about each other. He also revealed a juicy little tidbit about something in the film that fans will, undoubtedly, be praying is true.
“There’s definitely some skin in this movie,” he says slowly. “And not all of it is being flayed or ripped apart. There’s some Gillian skin, and some of mine.”
Hmm… the rumor of an upcoming Mulder/Scully love story has been brewing since this second film was announced last year. While filming the The X-Files: I Want To Believe, Duchovny and Anderson even went so far as to stage a passionate kiss in a parking lot for stalking photographers. So, can we really believe what Duchnovy is saying (and yes, I want to believe!)?
Writer/producer Frank Spotnitz did offer up some details that would back up Duchovny’s little reveal.
The emotional story of Mulder and Scully is really the heart of the movie … It’s about their love story.
It won’t be long before we find out if Duchovny and Spotnitz are just putting us on. The X-Files: I Want To Believe opens in theaters on July 25, 2008.
