Not long ago, we reported that Darren Aronofsky would be directing the much-talked about Robocop reboot. Some of the big rumors surrounding this project are that it would be PG-13 — which is the “in” thing these days — and that it might be filmed in 3D. Everyone also wanted to know whether it was a remake, a sequel, a re-imagining, or what. Well, MTV has a couple articles that seem to have most of the answers for inquiring minds.

Most importantly, it looks like our prayers are answered and that the movie could very well be heading toward the R-rating is so definitely deserves. Producer Mike Medavoy (who also worked on the original movie) said that it was likely to get its R rating unless the director decided to cut some of it back, which, knowing Aronofsky, isn’t something that will happen unless it has to.

As far as 3D goes, that seems to have been a full-blown rumor; in fact, Medavoy doesn’t think it’s ever even been brought up.

Now, to clear the air a little, this will indeed be a “re-imagining” and not a sequel like it was once thought. Think along the lines of Batman Begins and that’s what this will be like. But, why even make this movie at all? Why take a movie that was made but only 21 years ago and do it again? Well, in a separate article from MTV Movie Blog, Medavoy explains it.

When asked is Peter Weller, who played the original RoboCop, would have any appearance, Medavoy only said that it’d be up to the director. If this is a serious re-imagining, I doubt you’ll see this. Maybe a very quick little cameo, but that’d be about it.
