Will Our Favorite Starbuck Katee Sackhoff Become Typhoid Mary In ‘Daredevil’ Reboot Or ‘Deadpool’ Spin-off?

Typhoid Mary

Golden Apple Comics in Los Angeles is becoming a comic book movie-lovers best friend. The shop has their own blog, and when Hollywood’s talent comes in an purchases an insta-collection of one particular comic, they let the world know. Obviously when a star just shows up and buys a pile, there’s something going on — most likely they’re going to audition, or maybe they’ve even already landed the role.

In any case, the latest rumor is quite interesting. The comic store shared that a one Katee Sackhoff (Battlestar Galactica‘s Starbuck) came into the shop and bought all of the Typhoid Mary comic books that should could carry with “hopes of getting a Marvel role.” This has lead all to assume two things: The planned reboot of Daredevil, or the Deadpool spin-off movie.

This is all purely speculation of course, but from what I hear of Typhoid Mary, she’s completely insane. Hearing this, I can’t imagine you could find many ladies who could swing that quite like Miss Sackhoff.

Typhoid Mary could quite possibly be one of the most intriguing characters in the land of superheroes and villains. She suffers from a severe case of schizophrenia, in which she has two other personalities. Not being familiar with the character, I went Wiki on her, so hopefully these descriptions are correct. She has her regular “Mary” persona, which is quiet and normal and has no powers; then she has her “Typhoid” persona, which is more wild and sexual and dangerous; lastly, she has what’s called her “Blood Mary” side which hates men and is extremely violent. Her two more-aggressive sides have multiple powers, including telekinesis and pyrokinesis (lighting things on fire with her brain). She gained these powers and curses when Matt Murdock accidentally shoved her out of a window before he became Daredevil. It is with he that Mary has the most storylines, but aside from knowing that the studios wanted a “do-over” with the blinded hero, we haven’t heard much about that project’s progress.

At another point in comic lore, she was locked in a mental institution where her and her other personalities went to battle with one another. Each of her personalities hired a mercenary for various reasons: Her regular Mary persona hires Deadpool to kill her and end it all; Typhoid hired Deadpool as well, but this time it was to help her break out; and her Blood side hired the Vamp/Animus to break her out so she could keep killing. Deadpool refused to kill her after defeating the Vamp, which in-turn made her Typhoid side the dominant persona. There was also a time where Deadpool also threw her out a window, which reminded her of what Daredevil had done, and the two went to confront him.

No one can say which movie Katee Sackhoff may be trying to land the role of Typhoid Mary in, but both sound interesting enough. I have to say the Sackhoff and Ryan Reynolds in awell-handled Deadpool spin-off would already have me pretty excited. Then there’s the new in thing for these kinds of movies: signing an actor/actress to a multi-film contract which in this case, might just included Daredevil AND Deadpool.

The character did kind of appear in the Daredevil spin-off Elektra, but that doesn’t need to be discussed any further.

More should be known soon — stay tuned!

  1. I absolutely adore Katee Sackhoff, but there’s only one comic book role I want to see her in on the big or small screen: Tulip O’Hare from Garth Ennis’ “Preacher”.

Alternatively, if she wants to play comic psycho villainess, I’d give her good odds at bringing the goods as Harley Quinn in a future Nolan Batman installment.
