While there’s no real news here, the thought of something happening is sometimes pretty exciting. One of the more smile-inducing things that would get fans going, would be Bryan Singer returning to attempt to save the X-Men franchise — a franchise which has been demolished since his wonderful X-2 with movies like X-Men: The Last Stand and X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
In an interview with Total Film, Singer was asked about the world of X-Men — how he’s seen it since leaving, and if he would like to return to it some day.
Here’s what Singer had to say:
I’m eternally intertwined with X-Men now. What takes an audience four hours to watch – the first two movies – took six years of my life. So, to not be part of it”¦.It’s a shame. It’s weird for me to watch [The Last Stand] because I’m so close to the universe. And also Brett is a good friend of mine. But, of course, I would love to return to that universe.
Of course, the outstanding option for Singer to do would be one of the other spinoff movies that has been announced: X-Men Origins: Magneto. They’re still in the process of finding a director, but as Singer puts it, he’s done so much in that type of world that he’s not so sure about that one.
The only thing that concerns me about Magneto is that if the prequel were to follow the track I used in X-Men, which is Magneto’s history in the concentration camp, then I’ve lived in that world. Apt Pupil, X-Men and now Valkyrie”¦ I’ve lived in that Nazi universe for quite a while. I just might need to take a little break before I do something like that.
Mr. Singer definitely sounds like he’s interested in jumping back into the world, but between this and the uncertainty of Superman, he’s not sure what will happen. I personally say get this man for Magneto; there’s no way it would be a bad movie. In fact, it may be the perfect place for him to return to the franchise.

IMDb has David Goyer directing Magneto; let’s all pray this does not come to fruition. While Goyer produces excellent screenplays, he’s proven with his past ventures that he doesn’t understand pacing and the importance of character development, key aspects in telling the story of such a beloved villain. Blade Trinity made me throw-up in disappointment.

Fox won’t go knocking on Singer’s door begging him to return. As long as movies in the X-Men franchise are generating profit overall, the studio execs could not care less about characterization, CGI crappiness, or any attempt to intelligently translate source materials for the big screen.

I agree 100% with burning_chrome. Maybe once the contract expires with fox studios and marvel studios can get it back they can re-make the entire franchise much like what has happened with the batman franchise. Until that happens fox will butcher the x-men franchise for all it’s worth. We’ve all seen what marvel studios can do with their own works ( Iron Man ) so we know they can do a better job than fox.

X-Men Origins? demolished? It saved the franchise. Just your opinion though, which is in the minority.
