| DVD Review: Super Capers Super Capers
Directed by Ryan Griggs
Starring Justin Whalin, Sam Lloyd, Ryan McPartlin
Lions Gate Pictures
Release Date: July 21, 2009
Super Capers tells the tale of superhero wannabe Ed Gruberman (Justin Whalin). When Ed’s parents are murdered by a mysterious assailant, he decides to dedicate his life to fighting crime despite the fact that he has no super powers whatsoever. After getting sued by a criminal he assaults, the judge orders Ed to join Super Capers, a group of bumbling superheroes in training. It is there that Ed’s adventures in crime fighting really begin and of course hilarity ensues. Well, the hilarity would have ensued had the script been funny. For about an hour and a half, I sat there watching this movie with a blank expression on my face just wanting to laugh but not seeing anything on the screen to help me do that. The jokes were flat and just not funny, period.

| Comic Review: ‘Jennifer’s Body’ HC |
 Jennifer’s Body
Hardcover Edition
Written by Rick Spears
Art by Jim Mahfood, Ming Doyle, Nikki Cook, Tim Seeley
Letters by Troy Peteri
BOOM! Studios
Release date: August 26, 2009
The hardcover graphic novel Jennifer’s Body is not a straight comic book adaptation of the upcoming film of the same name, although at a glance, buyers might not realize that. Rather, this graphic novel expands upon the Jennifer universe, created in the screenplay by Diablo Cody (Juno), and contains a collection of stories that tie into the events from the movie. The main story of the film centers on Jennifer (played by Megan Fox), a beautiful high school cheerleader who every girl wants to be friends with and every boy wants to date. Her luck runs out one day after a demon enters her body when she’s used as a Satanic sacrifice. After that, Jennifer begins to kill and feed upon the boys at her school, while her best friend Needy plots to stop her. From previews and trailers, the movie has the dark comedy stylings and wicked female lead of Jawbreakers, but with more sex and gore. The graphic novel, written by Black Metal‘s Rick Spears, actually has very little in it of Jennifer herself, though we do see her go in for the kill several times. Instead, we follow her soon-to-be victims and learn all about what makes them tick, so that when we see the film, we’ll know if they really got what was coming to them.

| Steven Spielberg Developing Discovered Michael Crichton Book ‘Pirate Latitudes’ |

It’s been almost a year since renowned author Michael Crichton passed away. In that time frame, his family discovered the completed, but never published 300+ page book called Pirate Latitudes. Before the book is even released on November 24, 2009, it’s naturally already being developed into a movie, and who better to develop the work of Crichton than a one Steven Spielberg and writer David Koepp. Spielberg and Crichton worked together on multiple projects, such as creating E.R. and the movie Twister. Of the work they did together, nothing stands out more than the Crichton book that Koepp adapted to script form and Spielberg directed that went on to change movies forever: Jurassic Park. Fittingly enough, as it turns out, Mr. Spielberg had always wanted to do a pirate movie, and now there’s one here looking at him. At this moment, Spielberg is only developing and producing the project, but there is the chance that he’ll direct it, as well. Considering the material, the fallen friend, the story behind it all, it doesn’t sound like something he might direct…it sounds like a project that he simply HAS to direct. Only time will tell for sure.

| New ‘Jennifer’s Body’ Featurette Gives Us A Closer Peek At Megan Fox’s Demon |
A brand new “On-Set” featurette for Jennifer’s Body has been released by 20th Century Fox. The video gives us a little bit of a better look at the Diablo Cody (Juno) penned movie and what it’s about, as well as brief clips of director Karyn Kusama (Æon Flux, Girlfight) and stars Megan Fox (Transformers, Jonah Hex) and Amanda Seyfried (Mean Girls, Alpha Dog) talking about their parts in the project.
The story follows a popular high school cheerleader (Fox) who becomes possessed with a demon after an attempt to use her as a sacrifice goes awry. After the demon takes over her body, she begins to seduce the boys of her high school (with ease), and when they’re close enough, she feeds on them. Her best friend since childhood (Seyfried) happens to be more on the nerdy side of the clique fence, and finds herself in a position where she needs to stop Jennifer’s carnage-ridden path of death and devouring. Click on over to the other side check out the feature which was released via Yahoo! Movies.
