During a press conference in Dubai, Tom Cruise decided to reveal the new title for the fourth installment in the Mission: Impossible franchise, and as with many titles these days, it may have some fans scratching their heads.
Cruise said “One of the things I always wanted for the franchise was for it not to have a number afterwards. I’ve never done sequels to films and I never thought of these films as sequels. Paramount has done a great job in coming up with a title, so it’s not going to be MI2, 3, 4: It’s going to be Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol.”
As you can tell, something about it doesn’t feel right. Even the simple adjustment of Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol would be an improvement, but it still would sound very much cheesy. Especially being directed by someone like Brad Bird, who’s known for classics like The Incredibles and Ratatouille, you would think a much better title could have been set.
Not much is known about Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol, but it will supposedly follow a new Impossible Mission force headed up by Cruise — perhaps called the Ghost Protocol unit?
Along with Cruise, Simon Pegg and Ving Rhames are set to return, with Jeremy Renner and Josh Holloway joining the cast. Andre Nemec and Josh Appelbaum wrote the script, and J.J. Abrams is returning as a producer as well.
