David Duchovny Says ‘The X-Files 3’ Is Being Written; Awaiting Greenlight
space
The Movie God   |  @   |

In an interview with the French magazine, TVMag, David Duchovny shared where a third film in the X-Files franchise might stand at the moment. The star also touched on the 2008 second film, The X-Files: I Want To Believe, and how it was widely considered a financial and critical failure.

After being translated, Duchovny’s quote played out to say something along the lines of The X-Files 3 “Is in the process of being written. One awaits just the green light from Fox, a little disappointed from the relatively poor reception of the second film. The error comes, in my opinion, that the authors strayed too far from the roots of the series. Moreover, the film was released in the summer. The third will be much closer to what the public expects, with government conspiracies, etc.”

While the original 1998 film wasn’t all that popular either, the TV series from which the films are based — which ran from 1992 to 2002 — is beloved by a large fanbase who have continued to support it.

It’s not known exactly where the third film might wander, but would you the X-Files faithful be intrigued by yet another film judging by what Duchovny says, or is it just not worth the effort anymore?

  3. I like both of the X- files movies….Furthermore i don’t think that they strayed far from the series at all with “I want to believe” I think they touched bases with some critical personal conflicts that the characters dealt with on the series in an interesting way.

  5. Please let there be an X-Files 3!!! I loved Fight the Future and I Want to Believe was good, eventhough some critics made it out to be terrible. No X-Phile i know disliked.

  6. I’m in favor of X Files 3. As an avid x-phile I have always loved the x files. It was by far one of the best shows ever. The X Files I want to believe was a good movie but it did disappoint not holding true enough to the depth of the series or to the many facet of Mulder and Scully relationship. If this is indeed the last movie for the X-files many of the X-phile would love to see Mulder and Scully finally together. We waited long enough to see the two in a love scene. It would fit to the perfect ending of a awesome well-written series.

  7. Very, VERY interested in an X-Files 3! Carter has said it would conclude the alien mythology if it gets made, so I’m there!
