2010 Spike TV Video Game Awards: Who Won?
space
Merkader   |

Spike TV’s Video Game Awards were this weekend. The big winner overall, taking home many awards including Game of the Year, was Rockstar Games’ Red Dead Redemption. Now Red Dead was a good game, don’t get me wrong, but game of the year? It would probably make my top five, but definitely not my number one.

Also causing me to make a confused face was the Most Anticipated Game winner, Portal 2. Really? Portal 2 is the most anticipated game coming out? Not Gears of War 3 or Mass Effect 3 or Deus Ex: Human Evolution? All of which I’m looking forward to infinitely more than Portal 2. Oh and speaking of infinite, what about BioShock Infinite? I know it doesn’t come out for a while but that should win most anticipated until it does.

Making me smile however was an award going to the Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game. Check the full list below and see if you agree with the winners. What was your game of the year? Mine could quite possible be Halo: Reach, but I’ll have to think it over.

  1. I caught a bit of the “award show”. It sucked. Sure, it was awesome seeing the trailers for the coming games (somehow I totally missed the Batman one you posted, danke for that), and NPH is pretty rad, but the award show was shit. Most likely because it’s a SpikeTV production. 95% of the pre-written, teleprompter haha’s received nothing but cricket chirps. It was just sad.

Remind me why this is on SpikeTV?

  2. The writing was horrible. Every star who attempted one of their jokes got barely a chuckle. Painful to watch.

I only watch for the preview trailers and announcements as well.

That said, I’m thrilled Red Dead won best game. Westerns don’t get enough love and the sheer size of that world alone was awe inspiring to see and live in for a few (hundred?) hours.

I also agree with Portal 2 being most anticipated. Fun, sure, but c’mon now. There’s some insane games on the way that will surely stand far and above.

  3. Sadly, I haven’t played Red Dead Redemption yet. :/ (I know, I know.) I only recently picked up an Xbox 360 slim and have an entire library to catch up on. Read Dead being one of the list-toppers, but it’s a very long list.

  4. Crappy award show, crappy writing, retarded presenter. Seems like video game awards have fallen into the same trap as movie awards, mediocre listings which games studios paid to be listed. The voting was a farce.

  5. I think the highlight of the night was definitely when Jose Gonzalez played “Far Away” from Dead Read Redemption in front of a screen showing the game…that game was my favorite of the year and the song just fit the era and mood of it so well. Bone-chilling live rendition, too. Check out the clip at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qopwm7LF95Q
