Oh yes! Fans of the D can now buzz with excitement with official word of a brand new album in the works.
While talking to Spinner, Jack Black revealed that he and Kyle Gass, who fused together long ago to create their band Tenacious D, are indeed working on some new music. Black said “We’re in the middle of recording it. We’re about halfway through the writing process. We need another few months. But you can look for it at the end of 2011.”
Since Black has skyrocketed to fame there’s been a lot less Tenacious D going on, with appearances here and there as well as the occasional concert. The last time we saw them on a large scale was in 2006 when their long-awaited movie, Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny, finally hit theaters. The movie was loved by faithful fans but didn’t fare so well at the box office, costing $20 million to make but only bringing back $13.9 million worldwide.
The movie also came with a brand new companion album from the band instead of the traditional soundtrack. This was their sophomore effort, and though not considered quite as good as their first album, it was still a lot of fun and left fans wanting more.
Not much is known about the new Tenacious D tunes apart from what was said above and a small hint at where their inspirations will come from. Black teased “We’re gonna be talking about love, there are gonna be some songs about sex and there’s gonna be songs about food.” Surely fans wouldn’t want it any other way.
And what about another Tenacious D movie? Well, no, one is not in the plans at the moment…but that doesn’t mean it’s completely out of the question for the future. Black added “This is strictly a musical endeavor, but I would not rule out another film. Although it would probably be on the lower-budge.”

IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN THIS MOVIE – YOU MUST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Not only does Tenacious D music rock, but the movie is one of my favorites. The music is ridiculously awesome and the story is funny and heartfelt. I constantly listen to the soundtrack and watch the musical bits all the time. My favorites are Master Exploder, the rhythm in the song is amazing and the scene in the movie, in which the Pick transforms the band and the club, is perfectly hysterical, Kickapoo, a great origin story in which young JB, and after a few donuts, the real JB, mixes it up with Meat Loaf and Dio!, and of course Beezleboss starring (see if you can tell who it is) as an amazing bi devil sporting a famous guitar(I heard). A funny, heart warming, care free movie full of great, great music. I can’t believe it wasn’t better received, but I hope the cult following and Jack Blacks fame, and new Tenacious D music, may warrant a sequel. That would be a very welcome sequel indeed. Start up the campaign GoD!
