Femme FatalesFemme Fatales
The Complete Second Season
DVD
Directed by Mark A. Altman and Robert Meyer Burnett
Starring Tanit Phoenix, Eric Roberts, Steve Railsback
Entertainment One
Release Date: July 16, 2013

The Cinemax series Femme Fatales must be some kind of hit for the pay cable network best known for having a saucier programming line-up than their competition. As the old saying goes, if it’s 1 a.m. in the morning and two big-bosomed lesbians are getting it on then brother you’re probably watching Cinemax. Based partially on a long-running men’s magazine specializing in profiles of actresses and starlets from the B-grade sci-fi, horror, and action flicks going back six decades or more, Femme Fatales is an anthology series designed to appeal to the periodical’s readership. The show features stories of crime, passion, betrayal, murder, and occasionally some truly off-the-wall material that star at least one or two recognizable characters actors or actresses who never quite took hold of that big brass ring but still manage to keep their careers alive and kicking.

The show’s second season ran from May to August of 2012 and now Entertainment One has collected every episode in the new 3-disc DVD set Femme Fatales: The Complete Second Season.

Tenacious D

In anticipation of the release of their forthcoming CD The Rize of the Fenix (their first in six years, due out this May) the greatest rock band in the world has returned for their first music video in what seems like ages. That’s right ladies and gentlemen, Tenacious D – the folk metal duo consisting of musically gifted funnymen Jack Black and Kyle Gass – are back to rock our socks off with more rock guaranteed to melt your tits.

You can check out their epic promotional short film “To Be The Best” here below.

The D first appeared in a three-episode HBO comedy series that aired from 1997 to 2000. They released their first full-length album in 2001 and within four years it had gone platinum. In 2006, the duo made their big screen debut in the hilarious rock musical Tenacious D In The Pick of Destiny, but the film was a box office flop. Since its release on DVD it has become a cult film. Black and Gass also released a soundtrack album packed with original songs.

Oh yes! Fans of the D can now buzz with excitement with official word of a brand new album in the works.

While talking to Spinner, Jack Black revealed that he and Kyle Gass, who fused together long ago to create their band Tenacious D, are indeed working on some new music. Black said “We’re in the middle of recording it. We’re about halfway through the writing process. We need another few months. But you can look for it at the end of 2011.

Since Black has skyrocketed to fame there’s been a lot less Tenacious D going on, with appearances here and there as well as the occasional concert. The last time we saw them on a large scale was in 2006 when their long-awaited movie, Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny, finally hit theaters. The movie was loved by faithful fans but didn’t fare so well at the box office, costing $20 million to make but only bringing back $13.9 million worldwide.
