Universal Studios has released the second trailer for The House with a Clock in Its Walls. The family friendly horror comedy is directed by Eli Roth and stars Jack Black as an eccentric uncle who also happens to be a warlock, and Cate Blanchett as his witchy neighbor who is as charming and equally mystifying.
The film is actually based on the beloved children’s classic written by John Bellairs and illustrated by Edward Gorey, which is about a young boy who accidentally awakens the dead, and it is up to the strange town of witches and warlocks to rally together to put them to rest. Check out the latest trailer as well as a new poster below.
The combination of Black and Blanchett may sound off the wall at first, but when we see them together bouncing all kinds of hilarious and witty material off each other, it’s something that I want more of. Not only that, but Roth is directing the film. And we all know what kind of resume and taste for gore that the has. So to see him pull back a bit is fascinating. I’m curious to see how some of his fans will react to the finished product. But so far, I really like what I see. And it’s got that classic Amblin charm about adventures with wild twists. So really, how could any one not love this?
Here’s the official plot synopsis:
In the tradition of Amblin classics where fantastical events occur in the most unexpected places, Jack Black and two-time Academy Award® winner Cate Blanchett star in The House with a Clock in Its Walls, from Amblin Entertainment. The magical adventure tells the spine-tingling tale of 10-year-old Lewis (Owen Vaccaro) who goes to live with his uncle in a creaky old house with a mysterious tick-tocking heart. But his new town’s sleepy façade jolts to life with a secret world of warlocks and witches when Lewis accidentally awakens the dead.
The film also stars Renée Elise Goldsberry, Sunny Suljic, and Kyle MacLachlan. It’s written by Eric Kripke (creator of TV’s Supernatural).

The House with a Clock in Its Walls opens in theaters on September 21, 2018.
