There’s some new concept art that has appeared on the interwebs that might just reveal the exact look of The Red Skull, along with an image of Johann Schmidt (The Red Skull pre-facial mutilation!) holding The Cosmic Cube in Captain America: The First Avenger.
The Red Skull is the big bad guy facing off against Mr. Red, White, and Blue in the upcoming feature film. This image appears to be in the same style as earlier concept art of the red headed character. In the film, Steve Rogers becomes Captain America after signing up for a secret military program to make him a super soldier to fight the Nazis. The Red Skull is Hitler’s henchman in charge of advance weaponry; he has a plan for world domination involving the magical object known as the Tesseract (or The Cosmic Cube).
It was a brilliant move to cast Hugo Weaving as The Red Skull. He has the presence to carry off this over-the-top villain. Chris Evans plays Captain America and if you have any doubt that he can pull the character off, check out The Losers. While Cap should be much more straight-laced than Evan’s character in The Losers, that movie still proves that Evans has the charisma to pull off a superhero. Yes, he played Johnny Storm in the Fantastic Four films, but Captain America is going to be a much more sophisticated character (at least he’d better be). The film also stars Tommy Lee Jones, Stanley Tucci, and Haley Atwell. Captain America: The First Avenger premieres on July 22nd, 2011.
