Bethesda Softworks has announced that a sequel to the 2006 video game, Prey, is in the works and will be released some time in 2012.
The original game followed a Native American called Tommy who, along with his girlfriend and grandfather, is abducted by aliens who bring them into a nightmarish ship where humans are apparently being harvested by the extraterrestrials. Tommy then has to navigate his way through the ship, often needing to work with strange portals and gravitational belts, trying to find and save them.
Prey 2 will be developed by the same team that made the original, Human Head Studios, and much like the first game used id Software’s id Tech 4 engine, the sequel will be built using id’s brand new engine.
Of the announcement, project lead Chris Rhinehart said “we are thrilled to be working with Bethesda on Prey 2. Prey 2 will provide gamers the opportunity to explore a new facet of the Prey universe, one that offers fast-paced action in an open, alien world. We’re excited to show gamers the title we have been working on and hope they will be as excited by this title as we are.”
