Face front, true believers! Marvel Studios has recently posted a short clip from the new “one-shot” The Consultant, which is to appear exclusively on the upcoming ThorBlu-ray.
I actually really love this idea, and if this experiment is ongoing, I couldn’t be more excited. What Marvel’s clearly doing with this “one-shot” is adding a high quality short film as a bonus feature on Thor that expands the overall Marvel film universe. The clip, which you can watch here below, features previously developed characters Special Agents Caulson and Sitwell discussing a problem concerning General Thunderbolt Ross, who was featured in The Incredible Hulk, and their reluctant solution to the problem, who we learn is “The Consultant.”
For those of you that are not comic readers, the term “one-shot” is pretty self-explanatory, but I’m going to tell you what it is anyway. A One-Shot is basically a self-contained story that is limited to one single-issue comic book, but obviously Marvel is just using the term to say “short film,” which is still pretty fun and a nice way to give a nod to comic readers.
Like I said, I really love this idea, and I hope they keep it going into future releases like Captain America and next year’s The Avengers. It’s a cool way to build the universe further while also developing some of the non-super powered characters within it. The only issue that a lot of people are going to have is that it is exclusive to the Blu-ray format, which I’m sure is going to make plenty of people less than happy. Not me, though! I have two Blu-ray players and I sleep on a pile of gold while I smoke fancy cigars rolled in one hundred dollar bills and write articles on my MacBook Pro.
The Consultant appears on the Thor2-disc Blu-ray and 3-disc Blu-ray editions, which will be released on September 13, 2011.

And would this “consultant” go by the name of ”Tony Stark”, I wonder?
