While Comic-Con International has been rumored to be moving away from its home in San Diego, one of its subsidiaries, Wonder-Con, has now finally made that move.
CCI has announced that Wonder-Con will be leaving its home in San Francisco at the Moscone Center, which is undergoing renovations, and will now be taking place at the Anaheim Convention Center. The event will be held from March 16-18, 2012, which is interesting, as ReedPop’s C2E2 is held during the same month.
“It certainly was not our wish to move,” commented David Glanzer, director of marketing and public relations for the nonprofit event. “However, when faced with the prospect of canceling the show for a year or moving locations, after careful consideration we decided to keep WonderCon on the 2012 calendar at a venue that could accommodate our needs.”
Now, while I’ve never attended Wonder-Con, this is an interesting turn for CCI, as they are an ever-growing company with a cornerstone, San Diego Comic-Con, that is growing beyond its means. I’m not sure how long SDCC will be able to hold onto things in its home town, and as WC is even moving, it’s only time until SDCC moves as well.
What do you think?

very bummed that WC is moving…. I hope CC never does but at the same time im so sick of how hard it is to get tickets the past few years. plus they moved the dates up and raised the prices. Thats not cool.

It sounds like it’s just for one year – 2012, and then it’ll be back in SF after that.
