Comic Book Art Blogs Worth Viewing: The Sindiecate

There are a lot of great comic book art blogs out there, beyond the deviantart pages of the world, and if you’re a comic book fan, these are webpages that you should be checking out on a daily basis. All this week (okay, so we had a bit of a break, I had to find some more to talk about), I’m going to highlight a few that I think are worthy of your attention or are just pages for some of my favorite artists.

The Sindiecate is one of the newest art collective blogs. In fact it just started a few weeks ago. The artists involved in this one are David Lafuente, Jorge Munoz, James Harren, Ryan Ottley, and Mike Choi. Their stated goal is to “pay homage to independent comic books and authors.” The first theme they tackled was Todd deZago and Mike Wieringo’s Tellos, with Jonathan Ross/Tommy Lee Edwards being the second theme. This week is focusing on Locke and Key, and there are already a couple of great pieces up.

As I look through more and more art blogs the general set up is, you find a group of artists, get them to agree to a given theme each week, and let them go to town. And you know what, it is a simple but effective set up. There are no frills, just great art, and great artists tackling different subjects that we wouldn’t be able to see otherwise. I mean, when would we ever get to see David Lafuente take on a creator-owned series like Locke and Key? Only online. The Sindiecate seems to have struck on a unique general theme of giving readers different looks at independent comics. There are plenty of titles for them to tackle, and each artist has a different style so each of the pieces up so far have a distinct look and feel.

The Sindiecate is a new blog, and you probably didn’t even know it existed, so check this one out. There is a lot of potential in the grouping of artists, and while I have heard of a couple of them, there are a few whose work I wasn’t aware of. This is one to get in on ground floor of. I am very excited to see where they go from here.
