Fan of Across The Universe, but found it to be oddly dull and lacking in the drug department? Well, here’s the film for you.

Deadline is reporting that The Grateful Dead will be getting the biopic treatment thanks to ICM lit agent Bruce Kaufman, who was also behind the nabbing of the rights to the song that would later become the title of the solid Julie Taymor Beatles-inspired film.

Personally, while I’m not a huge Dead Head, this is definitely an intriguing bit of news. I love the time period which would be the setting for the group’s creation, and honestly, I’m not all that familiar with the group or their inception. A biopic here could do the group wonders, and given the right creative team, it could also be something really quite special. The Dead really seem to play well to the idea of a mind bending take on their music, so hopefully that’s exactly what we will be getting with this sucker.
