As production on this sucker continues to proceed, the cast for J.J. Abrams‘ upcoming sequel to Star Trek has found a new leading lady.
Variety is reporting that Alice Eve has joined the film’s cast, in a role that is rumored to be new to the Trek canon.
Nothing is known yet about her role, but she joins an impeccable cast bringing back the crew from the first film, as well as Benicio del Toro, who will play the role of villain for the new one. The movie hits on May 17, 2013.
Personally, this is great news. I find Eve, who will be seen in March in The Raven, to be an immensely gifted actress, and one who could really knock material like this out of the ball park. It obviously remains to be seen as to what the character will do/who it will be, but the idea that this creative team is branching off in their own direction with both story, and now characters, is so great. I can’t wait to see what Abrams has to offer here.
