Apparently you can’t do a film based in the universe of Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs without a directing duo behind the camera.

Variety is reporting that the pair of Cody Cameron and Kris Pearn will be helming the upcoming Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs 2 for Sony Animation.

The first film was directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller, who themselves were relatively new to the animation game. Cameron and Pearn both worked on the first film as head of story and a story artist, respectively, so they definitely have a knowledge of the universe they want to build here. Thus far, all things appear to be going great for this rather anticipated sequel.

I was definitely a shockingly big fan of the first film, so while a sequel doesn’t quite get my blood going, it’s definitely not without its merits. I think this is a fine universe, and one that could mine something really cool.

Here’s to hoping, at least.
