Fans of the hit BBC series Sherlock will be elated to hear that the show will indeed be returning for a third season.
The show, which stars Benedict Cumberbatch (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, War Horse) as Sherlock Holmes and Martin Freeman (What’s Your Number?, The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy), is a modern take on the classic Arthur Conan Doyle character.
Show co-creator Steven Moffat tweeted that “Yes of course there’s going to be a third series “” it was commissioned at the same time as the second. Gotcha!” after making it seem like there might not be.
The hopes are that the third season can be ready by 2013, but both stars are incredibly busy right now with The Hobbit, where Freeman plays Bilbo and Cumberbatch voices Smaug and the Necromancer. Cumberbatch even more so after just landing the role of the villain in J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek 2.

Star Trek villain… Too bad he’s not taking over as Spock.Â
