Dark Shadows #1

A couple of official images of star Johnny Depp as the vampire Barnabas Collins in Tim Burton‘s adaptation of Dark Shadows, the horror fantasy TV series that ran from the late ’60s to the early ’70s.

The first was released not too long ago and can be seen above (also featuring Michelle Pfeiffer), while the other is new and can be found lurking at the bottom of this post!

SYNOPSIS

In the year 1752, Joshua and Naomi Collins, with young son Barnabas, set sail from Liverpool, England to start a new life in America. But even an ocean was not enough to escape the mysterious curse that has plagued their family. Two decades pass and Barnabas (Johnny Depp) has the world at his feet-or at least the town of Collinsport, Maine. The master of Collinwood Manor, Barnabas is rich, powerful and an inveterate playboy…until he makes the grave mistake of breaking the heart of Angelique Bouchard (Eva Green). A witch, in every sense of the word, Angelique dooms him to a fate worse than death: turning him into a vampire, and then burying him alive.

Two centuries later, Barnabas is inadvertently freed from his tomb and emerges into the very changed world of 1972. He returns to Collinwood Manor to find that his once-grand estate has fallen into ruin. The dysfunctional remnants of the Collins family have fared little better.

  1. THIS is what I love about Johnny Depp so much.  I had NO IDEA, just looking at that image, that he was Barnabas.  Depp has a rare gift that he is able to completely transform himself from role to role, making the audience completely forget about the actor and focus solely on the character.  He is hands down one of the most talented actors of our age.

  3. Funny, I didn’t know it was Depp, but I thought, who is trying to look like Jonathan Frid as Barnabas Collins?  How can it fail with Tim Burton and Depp?  I loved the show in the late sixties and I’m sure I’ll have a chuckle over this spoof.  It is a spoof right?
