Diane Kruger, the German actress who’s starred in such films as Troy, National Treasure, and Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds, has entered into negotiations to join the cast of The Host, an adaptation of Twilight author Stephenie Meyer‘s sci-fi book of the same name.
The actress would join a cast that already includes Saoirse Ronan (The Lovely Bones, Hanna), Max Irons (Dorian Gray, Red Riding Hood) and Jake Abel (Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief, I Am Number Four).
Kruger would play The Seeker, who looks after a young rebel human named Melanie (Ronan)…one of the last few humans that remains after an alien life form known as The Souls inhabits almost every other human and takes their bodies and minds for themselves. Melanie is, however, occupied by another soul named Wanderer, who can’t get a firm control over the young human’s brain and quickly senses her deep emotional attachment to her brother and love interest. This leads Wanderer to set off in hopes of finding Melanie’s loved ones, putting the remaining rebels in danger of being discovered and forcing The Seeker to find and return Melanie and Wanderer.
The Host will be directed by Andrew Niccol, whose previous titles include In Time, Lord of War, S1m0ne, and Gattaca, and it is currently set for release on March 29, 2013.
