Breaking Dawn was the final book in the Stephanie Meyer’s Twilight Saga series, and it was so full, it had to be broken into 2 movies. Parts 1 and 2 revolve around the marriage, pregnancy, birth, and childhood of Edward and Bella’s (Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart) little family, which now include Reneesmee and Jacob (Mackenzie Foy,Taylor Lautner).
Part 1 synopsis
The wedding is here and not everyone is happy. Jacob is understandably upset. Charlie has mixed feelings, and Edward wants to unburden himself about his sordid past, in order to make sure she really knows what she is getting herself into vampire wise. She has a Volturi nightmare before the wedding, but the real wedding is beautiful. Jacob finally shows up, a wedding “gift” from Edward, but gets really upset when he hears she will be human during the honeymoon. He think Edward will kill her.
They depart to the sound of a howling werewolf and pass through gorgeous Rio de Janeiro, Brazil to a speedboat that takes them to a private island, El Esme, a gift from Carlisle. So Edward tries to take Bella’s virginity without breaking Bella. He breaks the bed instead, but apparently, he did a good job. They have a wonderful honeymoon. But Edward gets upset when he sees bruises. “Why can’t you see how perfectly happy I am?” He doesn’t want to touch her anymore. She tries to tempt him. They just have fun.
Things start happening quick. Bella gets sick realizes she’s late. Alice calls. Bella is pregnant. Edward wants it out. Bella goes to Rosalie for help and she protects Bella from everyone else. Edward turns to Jacob to convince Bella to get rid of the baby. Jacob can’t handle it, but when the wolfpack gets wind of the vampire/human baby, Jacob breaks from the pack, and Seth and Leah join his new pack. Jake warns the Cullens.
Bella is dying. The baby is stealing all of her nutrition and she won’t survive. Until Jacob gets the idea that the baby wants blood. The idea works and Bella starts getting better. Then childbirth – Reneesme is born and chaos ensues. Jacob inmprints on her so the pack backs away. Bella seems dead, but she is very still because of the morphine. Then she open her eyes – a vampire.
I’ve always loved the way they ended these movies with cliffhangers like the end of tv show seasons. This was a decent set up to the last movie with the pregnancy. I especially liked Jacob’s journey in this movie, him coming into his own, and how he is a part of the Cullen family now. Rosalie’s part with her finally having some depth was wonderful as well. I always love the cool prevailing heads of Carlisle and Renee as well.
Part 2 Synopsis
Bella’s experiences vision with her new vampire eyes. She’s stronger than Edward, “It’s your turn not to break me.” They hunt. She finally meets her daughter and gives Jacob hell for imprinting on her daughter which was a particularly funny scene. The wolf pack goes to kill the baby but they can’t – it’s the number one wolf rule. Imprints are off limits.
Bella, Jacob, and Renesmee are happily playing in the snow, when Irina,(who never got over the death of Laurent) spies the child. Vampire children are banned, for they are too beautiful and too wild. Not stopping to ask questions, she runs to Aro (Michael Sheen) and the Volturi, who is delighted to finally get a chance to wipe out the Cullens, except Alice (Ashley Greene) of course. Alice sees them coming and they come up with a plan. The wolves are with the Cullens. They must go around the world and get witnesses to attest that Renesmee is not a vampire child. She quickly wins everyone over. The Volturi arrive, and although Aro sees the truth through Alice, he declares she must die. Bella sends Jacob and Renesmee away. We watch helplessly as Carlisle and Jasper die, but then finally, so does Aro. And then… nothing. It was the vision. Aro has no choice but to walk away or he will die.
I always thought this was tricky yet clever on the part of the movie to make the fake battle. It was upsetting to see such likable characters such as Jasper and Carlisle die, and such a sigh of relief when it was not real.
Part 1 Special Features:
Part 1 comes with 3 discs – Two extended features discs which give you a choice of the extended movie or the theatrical version and a special features disc with all this:
Love Death Birth: Filming the Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1: This breaks down the filming into all the relevant parts and gives an in depth look into the beginning, the wedding, the honeymoon (which made me very happy), the wolf pack’s role, the pregnancy, and the birth.
Jacob’s Destiny: Taylor Lautner and others narrates Jacob’s journey from the hothead in the beginning of the movie to his maturity at the end. It turns into Jacob’s story.
Jump to: This is included in all of the Blu-rays. You can jump to all scenes with Edward, Jacob, the wedding and reception, the honeymoon, the pregnancy,, the wolf pack, and the cullens.
Music Videos: Twilight would not be the same without great music. The videos included here are my boyfriend Bruno Mars and “It Will Rain,” Christina Perri’s “A Thousand Years,” “I Didn’t Mean To,” by The Belle Brigade, and Iron & Wine’s “Flightless Bird, American Mouth.”
Part 2 Special Features:
Tingles & Chills: Special Vampire Powers – One thing I’ve always liked about the Twilight vampires is that they al had their own unique power, which in turn, made them unique in vampire lore. This section takes you behind some of those powers, especially with the new covens.
Carlisle’s Contacts: The New Vampires – 30 New Vampires were introduced in Part 2, which was challenging to make them interesting and relevant.
Judge, Jury, & Executioner: Aro & the Volturi – Get to know the vampire “mafia” government of the vampire world.
Being Charlie Swan – The title speaks for itself, but Charlie is one of my favorite characters because he is so normal. The father-daughter relationship grounds her in the midst of all the weird.
The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 at Comic-Con – The last of the craze at SDCC 2012. People were camping out for a week to get into Hall H for the panel. At this one, little Mackenzie Foy joined the panel. You get to enjoy the Q & A with this one.
Stars on the Black Carpet – At the black carpet premiere, the stars delighted fans with glimpses of glamour and autographs.
Twilight comes in 4K Ultra HDâ„¢ Combo Pack (plus Blu-ray and Digital) and all five of The Twilight Saga films on Blu-rayâ„¢ Combo Pack (2 Blu-rays, 1 DVD, plus Digital) and Digital 4K Ultra HDâ„¢!
