Dark Horse Comics announced this week that they would be collecting Mike Norton‘s Battlepug web comic this July.
Now, you may not know what Battlepug is, and for that I hold a great deal of contempt towards you. Battlepug is Mike Norton’s ongoing web comic telling the tale of a barbarian on revenge quest — a revenge quest that is aided by a giant pug. You see, pugs are completely awesome. As any pug owner will attest, my wife and I included, pugs are pretty much the perfect breed, so it makes complete sense that Mike Norton would tell this Conan-esque story while using a giant pug to make the comic that much more awesome. So, basically it’s about a pug that battles. How could anything be better than that? Spoiler Alert: It’s impossible.
So, pugs are great, but how’s the comic? The comic is pretty awesome, and if you haven’t been keeping up with it, go to battlepug.com to keep up to date, but if you’ve never read the comic before, go here. As I said, it’s an awesome comic. And Dark Horse is pretty awesome for this, too. Previously, the publishing company collected volumes of Axe Cop and Dr. McNinja, so hopefully we’ll see this as more of a trend because the web comic market is teeming with creative energy. I’ve said it before, but web comics are the new indie comics. Anyway, all the awesomeness affiliated with this announcement aside, Battlepug really is a good, fun read, and Dark Horse has made a wise decision by bringing this great strip to the print market.
Battlepug Volume One will be released on July 4, 2012.
