Presenting ‘Titanic Super 3D’ As Envisioned by George Lucas, J.J. Abrams & Michael Bay

BAADASSSSS!   |

Titanic Super 3D

The 3D-converted re-release of James Cameron‘s 1997 Oscar-winning blockbuster Titanic didn’t exactly set the box office afire this weekend as it had did back in its day, forcibly ensconced in the number three spot behind The Hunger Games and American Reunion. But considering that the movie had already grossed over $1 billion worldwide in theaters and millions more on video and DVD and that 3D re-releases aren’t usually huge ticket sellers unless it’s a really slow weekend (and the summer movie season is currently in our cross hairs), this could hardly be considered a major loss for Cameron and the studio. In any case the director still has his deep sea scientific expeditions and the Avatar franchise, which should resume sometime before the bicentennial of the sinking of the Titanic, to consume his livelihood for the rest of time.

But have you ever looked at Titanic and thought it could really use more explosions, some lens flares, a Kraken, and maybe a stormtrooper or two? Let’s just say for argument’s sake that Cameron had handed the reins of the Titanic 3D re-release to some of his fellow E-ticket event filmmakers like George Lucas (mastermind behind the last major 3D re-release of a late 90s smash hit), J.J. Abrams, and Michael Bay. The Internet comedy group Pistol Shrimps has come up with what the end result would definitely look like. Presenting Titanic Super 3D!

You can watch the video here below.

I know this video is supposed to be played for humor, but I could see some of the ideas presented here as being very helpful to the overall narrative. After all, since every character in Titanic talks like they’re in a cheesy 1950’s B-movie having some sea monsters and random explosions thrown into the mix would only heighten the tension and maybe make you care more for the plight of poor Jack and Rose.

Over 3 million hits on Youtube in less than four days? I can see Cameron getting in on this now. Does anyone else smell a sequel?

Video

As I was watching the video the parts where the viewers get hit with debris from the movie reminded me of the “Feel-Around” sketch from the 1977 comedy classic The Kentucky Fried Movie. Such a damn funny movie.
