The first trailer for Brick writer-director Rian Johnson‘s forthcoming sci-fi action thriller Looper, which has been teased relentlessly all week, has been released today by Columbia Pictures and Film District. You can check it out here below.
Looper takes place in a world where time travel exists, but only as black market technology used by the mob to eliminate their enemies. They send hired killers, called “loopers,†thirty years into the past with their quarry. Joseph Gordon-Levitt plays a looper whose life is threatened when his employers decide to target his future self (Bruce Willis) for assassination.
Naturally since this is a teaser trailer we get little more than a basic overview of the film’s plot and some nicely assembled action footage expertly shot by Johnson’s cinematographer of choice Steve Yedlin. Everything here looks great and has me hungering for more. We’re still more than five months away from the movie’s release but if the studio’s marketing campaign keeps up the momentum started in recent weeks with a well-received Wondercon panel, the first still of Gordon-Levitt in character, and the release early this week of the film’s first poster, and the positive reviews that Looper has received from early screenings last year are any indication then we could really be in for quite a genre movie this fall.
Looper also stars Emily Blunt, Paul Dano, Piper Perabo, Garret Dillahunt, and Jeff Daniels. The movie opens on September 28, 2012.
