Twentieth Century Fox is busy putting together the pieces for a sequel to last summer’s blockbuster prequel, Rise of the Planet of the Apes.
It’s being reported that Fox has found a new writer, bringing in Scott Z. Burns to work on the project. Burns’ previous works include The Bourne Ultimatum, The Informant!, and Contagion.
The studio has already delivered a massive seven-figure deal (well-deserved) to performance capture king Andy Serkis to return to the role of Caesar, which was followed by the announcement that the sequel would arrive in 2014. Fox also retained the talents of director Rupert Wyatt for the sequel, and writers Amanda Silver and Rick Jaffa were brought back to work on drafts of the script.
Not much is known about the sequel in terms of story details, only that it will continue where the first left off, as the apes begin their rise to becoming the dominant species of the planet. Director Wyatt has discussed possible ideas for the follow-up, as well.
