It’s been announced that ReelzChannel has acquired the U.S. rights to World Without End, the eight-part sequel to the 2010 Starz miniseries, Pillars of the Earth.
Both miniseries are based on the books of author Ken Follett. Pillars centered around the construction of a massive church, and took place over the course of many years. World Without End takes place over 150 years after Pillars in the same fictional town of Kingsbridge (where some of the ancestors of the first story’s characters still reside) right at the start of some major historical events such as the Black Death plague and the Hundred Years’ War.
The new miniseries stars Charlotte Riley, Cynthia Nixon, Ben Chaplin, Miranda Richardson, Peter Firth, and Sarah Gadon. The current hope is to begin airing he eight hour-long episodes beginning this fall.
As a big fan of Pillars of the Earth, I have high hopes for this sequel. And with a budget of $46 million, hopefully it lives up to its predecessor.
