The Dark Knight Rises Batman Banner

Tonight is the live broadcast of the 2012 MTV Movie Awards, which promises, as always, to bring out the stars of today’s hottest movies, as well as debut new footage from highly anticipated films.

This year’s show, which begins at 9pm ET, is hosted by Russell Brand and will debut exclusive footage of this year’s most anticipated film, The Dark Knight Rises, presented by director Christopher Nolan and stars Christian Bale, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Gary Oldman. Reportedly, the clip will not be made available online after the show, so the only way to see it is to tune into the show tonight.

For the 2012 awards, The Hunger Games and Bridesmaids lead the nominations with 8 nods each, with 21 Jump Street and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 close behind with 6 each, while movies like Drive, Like Crazy, The Descendants, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, and My Week with Marilyn are all in the running as well.

Also happening at the event:

– Actor Johnny Depp will be presented the Generation Award Recipient by Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler and Joe Perry of Aerosmith and The Black Keys will perform in Depp’s honor.

– The Amazing Spider-Man star Emma Stone will receive the first-ever MTV Trailblazer award, which apparently will come along with an old-fashioned roasting from Octavia Spencer, Jim Carrey, Mila Kunis and Jason Sudeikis.

– Some of the presenters: Jodie Foster, Kate Beckinsale, Jessica Biel, Charlie Sheen, Channing Tatum, Matthew McConaughey, Charlize Theron, Adam Sandler, Emma Watson, Andy Samberg, Leighton Meester, Logan Lerman, Kristen Stewart, Ezra Miller, Andrew Garfield, Chris Hemsworth, Michael Fassbender, Mila Kunis, and Mark Wahlberg.

– The first national campaign ad of the 2012 Presidential Election will air during ceremony. President Obama’s re-election campaign will debut its first national television ad, featuring Sarah Jessica Parker inviting Obama supporters to her house for an upcoming fundraising dinner with the President.

The event takes places tonight starting at 9pm EST at the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City, California.
