The Ice Age franchise is 20th Century Fox’s glistening animated gem. Sure the quality of the story of the film franchise died down after the first installment, but all three animated films have grossed over $200 million, and that is nothing to scoff at. So the studio is having a fourth go-around. Ice Age: Continental Drift hits theaters in less than a month, but we are getting a new look at the crazy antics that Manny, Sid, and Diego get into, and it has an affect on the world. Literally. Check out the trailer below.
In Ice Age: Continental Drift, Scrat – a prehistoric squirrel who fails to claim an acorn on multiple and hilariously near fatal accounts – inadvertently causes the land mass known as Pangaea to split apart. As a result of his actions Manny, Sid, and Diego are separated from their herd, or family of misfit animals.
Using an iceberg as a makeshift ship, they come across the villain of the film, animal pirates – and you thought Manny’s herd was crazy enough. They must work together – again – to stop these pirates and reunite with their herd.
I can’t say that Fox has done anything to peak my interest in the film after the first one. To be honest they are just going to milk very prehistoric event they could before the franchise ends, which would be pretty dark. If they intend to finish the series, maybe they will do something along the lines of the series finale of Dinosaurs – if any of you can remember back that far.
Ice Age: Continental Drift opens in theaters on July 13, 2012.
