Resident Evil: Retribution

If the Resident Evil franchise has taught us anything, it’s that fans are thirsty for more movies based on the popular video game. Come September 14, Milla Jovovich and company will reprise their roles for Resident Evil: Retribution.

This time Alice must combat against the false memories created by the Umbrella corporation. Paul Wes Anderson returns to direct Resident Evil: Retribution, and like its predecessors, you will see a lot of nods to the video game. Watch the trailer below and see how many you can count.

Based on the trailer, it looks like everybody will be coming back. Does that signify that the end is coming or that they will be coming back for another Resident Evil movie? I’m not sure, but you can be sure Sony will milk the series for what its worth.

Here’s the official premise:

The Umbrella Corporation’s deadly T-virus continues to ravage the Earth, transforming the global population into legions of the flesh eating Undead. The human race’s last and only hope, ALICE (Milla Jovovich), awakens in the heart of Umbrella’s most clandestine operations facility and unveils more of her mysterious past as she delves further into the complex. Without a safe haven, Alice continues to hunt those responsible for the outbreak; a chase that takes her from Tokyo to New York, Washington, D.C. and Moscow, culminating in a mind-blowing revelation that will force her to rethink everything that she once thought to be true. Aided by newfound allies and familiar friends, Alice must fight to survive long enough to escape a hostile world on the brink of oblivion. The countdown has begun.

To be honest, I was never a fan of the series to begin with. A lot of the film is just fueled by the insane amount of visuals seen. The previous four Resident Evil films scored lower than 30% on the Rotten Tomatoes meter, with only the first one earning the highest rating of 34%. So as you can see, not inspiring numbers, that is unless you just want to watch the movie for the heck of it.

  1. With the exception of the last film, I’ve found each of the Resident Evil movies to grow ever more enjoyable. Yes, it is a lot about visuals, and critics hate these movies, but Mila Jovovich is sexy, strong, and believeable as Alice in each of them. As long as she’s the star, I’ll catch each Resident Evil sequel as they’re made. But then, I catch all of her films.
