After completing his work on Coraline, stop-motion director Henry Selick headed over to Walt Disney Studios to work on a new mysterious stop-motion animated feature. That was back in 2010. Now Variety reports that the studio pulled the plug on the project and that the film could find new life at another studio.

Selick gave Disney The Nightmare Before Christmas and James and the Giant Peach, two solid stop-motion animated features. But as to why this particular project was halted, sources told the trade that the film was at “a creative and scheduling standpoint” and that it “wasn’t where it needed to be to meet its planned release date.” Production for the film started last summer.

While we may never find out what the project was about, Selick is still attached to direct an adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s Graveyard Book, which has yet to be confirmed to be a live-action or stop-motion film. My guess is the latter.
