If you weren’t involved in bootlegging during the Prohibition era, then you weren’t making any real money. Tom Hardy and Shia LeBeouf will play the Bondurant brothers in the upcoming crime drama Lawless, where they’ll take it upon themselves to seize the opportunities and dangers that bootlegging has to offer.
Now just a little over a week before the film’s release, a new red band trailer has arrived and it really glosses over the amount of violence and skin you will see in the movie.
Check it out below, and as always, this is obviously NSFW.
The trailer debuted on VICE’s official Youtube page. As you can see below, there is a lot to like about Lawless. First the film has The Dark Knight Rises star Tom Hardy. It also has Shia LaBeouf, who looks to have retired from the blockbuster business and settled in for some smaller films like this one.
The supporting cast is also great. Jessica Chastain and Mia Wasikowska will play the brothers’ love interests while Guy Pierce and Gary Oldman will play characters with their own agenda.
Directed by John Hillcoat (The Road), Lawless, formally known as The Wettest Country in the World, is due out in theaters on August 31st.
Here’s the official synopsis for the film:
LAWLESS is the true story of the infamous Bondurant Brothers: bootlegging siblings who made a run for the American Dream in Prohibition-era Virginia. In this epic outlaw tale, inspired by true-life tales of author Matt Bondurant’s family in his novel “The Wettest County in the World”, the loyalty of three brothers is put to the test against the backdrop of the nation’s most notorious crime wave.
