The Adjustment Bureau director George Nolfi is set to make XOXO, a tense social media thriller that is said to be in the vein of Fatal Attraction.
But that is just the tip of it all. Nolfi will be using a script written by Black Swan screenwriter Mark Heyman, and will receive some assistance from Darren Aronofsky, Michael London,, and Kelly Mullen. That’s quite the behind the scenes kind of team any filmmaker would love to have.
Variety says that the film will focus on an rising exec who is engaged to be married, but takes the social media hype for a spin. He then becomes attracted to a woman he met on Facebook, a decision he would soon regret in more ways than one.
But before you can write the film off because of its familiar premise, XOXO will implement stylized sequences to make the Internet interactions between the characters look more cinematic. The film will also use elements seen in Catfish, where characters venture out to find the real identity of a person they met online.
This will be Nolfi’s second directorial effort following The Adjustment Bureau. He was on a shortlist of directors to helm Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Nolfi signed on to write and direct the Cuban Missile Crisis thriller One Minute To Midnight earlier this year. It’s not known what project he would start off with first, but with no release date set for XOXO and Nolfi expected to rewrite the script with Heyman, it’s likely that Nolfi would direct One Minute To Midnight first.
