There has been a lot of building up to the first public glimpse of Guillermo del Toro‘s sci-fi action flick Pacific Rim.
So far we’ve seen many promotional photos and we along with a lucky few got to see the film in action at Comic-Con. But for those who have yet to see any footage, we must settle for the print promotions.
Check out the four new photos from the film below.
We have already seen Idris Elba suited up in pilot armor and another photo of Charlie Humman and Rinko Kukuchi in what looks like the cockpit of the giant robots that the humans will pilot. But now comes a few more photos showing the devastation of the monsters that wreck havoc on Japan; del Toro directing; another set photo; and Elba and Hunnam meeting for the first time.
These photos originated from Empire Magazine and revealed on Comic Book Movie.
The movie tells the story of a future where giant monsters called Kaiju have invaded Earth, and the only way to stop the apocalypse from occurring are the towering human piloted robots called Jaegers. The panel at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con (read our recap) confirmed that there will be 9 monsters going up against 6 robots. We also learned that these robots are very well-grounded, and that they are equipped with some incredible weapons. Rocket punches anyone?
Another thing that should get you excited for giant robots VS. giant monsters is that the movie doesn’t use any motion capture technology and implores very practical effects that go along with the CG work. Basically this will be a very believable film. From all the reactions I have been reading, everyone is putting Pacific Rim on their must-watch list for 2013.
Pacific Rim also stars Charlie Day and Ron Perlman and will open in theaters on July 12, 2013.
