Warner Bros. surprised Comic-Con attendees this earlier year with a very brief teaser trailer for Godzilla, and it was met with huge praise. Little is known about the film itself, but Gareth Edwards now has a scheduled date to keep.
WB has announced that the new Godzila reboot would be stomping into theaters in Summer 2014. According to the studio, the film will be a “grounded [and] realistic” take on everyone’s favorite walking skyscraper lizard.
Unfortunately WB is expected to release Godzilla in 3D as well. No word yet on whether or not it will be shot using 3D cameras or if it will be post converted. Based on a viewing experience, I hope they shoot Godzilla in 3D.
David Callaham (The Expendables), David S. Goyer (The Dark Knight trilogy), and Max Borenstein all contributed to the screenplay. No cast has been announced, but now that the film is scheduled to hit theaters May 16th, 2014, we should be hearing of a few names before the end of the year.
Deadline, who first reported on the news, says that Godzilla “will return the character to its epic roots with a gritty, realistic actioner.” But that’s some standard quotes you always seem to hear before the start of production. So we’ll see if WB can actually deliver.
