Gina Carano First To Join Female Version Of ‘The Expendables’

Gina Carano

Following the success of The Expendables 2, producer Adi Shankar and his 1984 Private Defense Contractors production company announced that they would be making an action film comprised of some of the most memorable female action stars. A month after Shankar made the announcement, Haywire star Gina Carano is the first to sign on for the untitled female version of The Expendables. Dutch Southern will write the script.

Variety, which was the first to report on the news, said that talks with other female action stars are ongoing. The report doesn’t mention whom Shankar may have been talking to or who is on his shortlist. Some of the names that have been thrown around are: Linda Hamilton, Sigourney Weaver, Jamie Lee Curtis, Uma Thurman, Milla Jovovich, Kate Beckinsale, Lucy Lawless, Lucy Liu, Maggie Q, and Cynthia Rothrock.

An excited Shankar had this to say about the casting:

“I don’t know how I’m supposed to make a movie that is supposed to be the female version of ‘The Expendables’ without Gina Carano in it. It would be like making Twix without caramel or Jamba Juice without jamba…”

Carano, who made a huge splash earlier this year by starring in Steven Soderbergh’s action thriller Haywire, has a supporting role in the upcoming motorized heist flick Fast and Furious Six. She will also star in John Stockwell’s In the Blood.

Do you think Gina Carano has earned her place on the female version of The Expendables? Who are the other actresses you would like to see join this team?

  1. Michelle Rodriguez, but she has to die doing something honorable about 2/3 into the movie, or else it just won’t work.

  3. I love Gina, but the entire point of the expendables, was all CLASSIC action heros .Gina is not a household name, and I’m still pissed off they used an unknown for the female part of expendables 2. A chinese girl no less .Maggie Cheung or Michelle Yeoh should have had that part .
So for a female expendables ,How about Cynthia Rothrock ,Michelle Pfieffer , all the girls from tarantinos grindhouse ,uma Thurman ,all the Charlie’s angels girls ,all the avengers and x men girls .if you’re going to use CLASSICS for the male movie,by all means, include Gina, but use all CLASSIC action women too . MICHELLE YEOH ! .

  5. Must also have at least Lucy Lawless, Linda Hamilton and Michelle Yeoh to be a credible “kick azz chick” action flick.

  6. Maggie Q, Kate Beckinsale and Milla Jovovich are good choices for action roles in “The Expendables”.
