The success of The Avengers opened the door for bold new possibilities for the Marvel franchise. Phase 2 is already getting underway with Iron Man 3 and Thor: The Dark World shooting, and Joss Whedon signed an exclusive contract that allows him to creatively consult for the studio until 2015.
Now a lot can happen in two full years. But perhaps one of the biggest things, aside from directing The Avengers 2, is the fact that he will be a producer of the new S.H.I.E.L.D. TV show that will air on ABC sometime in the very near future. Up until now, we only knew that he would be directing the pilot, but now a new character description sheet has been revealed. This sheet details the agents you will be seeing on the show. Check it out here below.
It’s important to know that this show will focus on the S.H.I.E.L.D. agents and not the Marvel personalities from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. So the chances of seeing Tom Hiddelston on the show are pretty low. Now while these agents are characters for a brand new show, their personalities, traits, and skills may sound familiar. Thanks to TV Line for these character details.
Skye – This late-20s woman sounds like a dream: fun, smart, caring and confident – with an ability to get the upper hand by using her wit and charm.
Agent Grant Ward – Quite the physical specimen and “cool under fire,” he sometimes botches interpersonal relations. He’s a quiet one with a bit of a temper, but he’s the kind of guy that grows on you.
Agent Althea Rice – Also known as “The Calvary,” this hard-core soldier has crazy skills when it comes to weapons and being a pilot. But her experiences have left her very quiet and a little damaged.
Agent Leo Fitz and Agent Jemma Simmons – These two came through training together and still choose to spend most of their time in each other’s company. Their sibling-like relationship is reinforced by their shared nerd tendencies – she deals with biology and chemistry, he’s a whiz at the technical side of weaponry.
Based on these descriptions, these characters sounds very similar to that of the characters seen on Firefly. But this show is still under development. So there could be some slight changes to these characters before they start shooting the pilot.
Whedon will direct the pilot episode and co-write with Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen (Dollhouse). Expect a premiere date to be announced soon.
