Disney has scheduled The Avengers 2 to hit theaters May 2015, but they won’t be the only ensemble superhero team saving the world. Warner Brothers feels confident that they will be able to bring in a Justice League movie within the next few years, and has scheduled the highly anticipated film for a Summer 2015 release. That’s right, two superhero teams from opposing comic book companies battling it out to claim the right to be called the best superhero!
Since the film is still very early in development – no director or cast has been announced – there isn’t much to say about the Justice League movie. We do know that Gangster Squad scribe Will Beall is tapped to write the draft for the film.
As to whether or not we will see Zack Snyder‘s Superman, from Man of Steel, will appear in the Justice League film, that remains to be seen. Snyder has long denied that his Superman is a part of WB’s plans for the Justice League, but having two different Supermans leaping tall buildings in a single bound, would be confusing to the audience.
According to The LA Times, the studio expects to meet its target date, albeit it is a tentative one. Still, its good to know that WB has outlined a plan. Considering the length of time it took for Marvel to build its cinematic universe, it’s hard to believe that WB would follow the same path. Instead the studio might take the opposite route and go in reverse, a plan they tried to do a few years back. We will see how all of this plays out within the coming years, and we’ll be sure to keep you up-to-date on any developments.
So DC Comic fans, are you excited that Justice League is finally hitting theaters in two years?

Unless they have Peter Jackson or Jackson and Chris Nolan together to grind out the Justice League live-action movie, this will just prove again that while WB Animation wins hands down against Marvel’s animated ventures, when it comes to building a cohesive behemoth from unique properties and personalities, DC’s big seven will get pwned by the Mighty Avengers.

I don’t have much confidence that DC will succeed with the Justice League movie unless they are patient and build their universe in the movies as Marvel has done. There is a reason “The Avengers” was as successful as it was, and that’s the anticipation built through the individual character movies. DC/Warner trying to emulate that success by taking a short cut sounds like a recipe for disaster to me. At the very least, DC/Warner must ensure that Snyder’s Superman is top-notch and lays the groundwork for a future Justice League movie. If Superman flails then a Justice League movie will be very difficult to pull off. Next, they need to successfully reboot Batman or keep the Nolan/Bale version going. If Bale (as Batman) and Superman actually meet on screen that will get a lot of fans excited about future crossovers for these characters and that alone might be enough to generate enough buzz to do the Justice League movie. But, I think they need to follow up with quality movies for Flash (or Martian Manhunter) and Wonder Woman to really lay the groundwork for Justice League. If they are patient and put in the time and work (as Marvel did) then Warner will potentially have a great DCU franchise in the movies.

I agree. I wrote a thing back in June about how DC can make a Justice League movie work, and it involves using the same actors they use now (or plan on using in the case of Batman). I even think they should keep Ryan Reynolds as Green Lantern, and if the JL movie is good use that as a springboard to make a “good” GL sequel. Because the last thing we need is another reboot, which is why I would stress any Batman “reboot” needs to take place in the same Batverse.
But really, I think that the second Fury showed up at the end of Iron Man talking about the Avengers Initiative, DC should have gotten on top of this.

Not to mention what a studio LEARNS about making movies (what works, what doesn’t) before going whole hog with the group. If the JL movie flops, then they’ll never make a WW or Flash movie. The GL movie was terrible. What will they do differently for JL?
