Lobby cards were small poster-like collectables used beginning in the early 1900s to promote movies, usually in sets of six to twelve cards.
The brand new Cinemax series Banshee premiered yesterday, Friday, January 11th. And as part of their marketing campaign, they’re bringing back the lobby card, but instead of a smaller printed poster-like image, the show is delivering lobby cards in GIF form. And Geeks of Doom has four exclusive cards to share with you!
You can learn more about the show, see the GIF lobby cards, and check out a trailer below now.
Banshee comes from True Blood creator Alan Ball, and follows Lucas Hood (Antony Starr), an ex-con and master thief who assumes the identity of the sheriff of Banshee, PA, where he continues his criminal activities, even as he’s hunted by the shadowy gangsters he betrayed years earlier. It also stars Ivana Milicevic, Ulrich Thomsen, Frankie Faison, Hoon Lee, Rus Blackwell, and Matt Servitto.
The show is also the first show to present its pilot episode completely in GIF format. That can be seen over at BuzzFeed.
In addition to the GIF pilot and lobby cards, the show has also made a Tumblr page where fans can check out a collection of GIFs and also caption and share them with friends.
If that’s not enough Banshee action for you, a website has also been set up which includes thirteen short prequel videos (clocking in at about 30 minutes total) telling the “story before the story” for fans who want the series set up.
There’s also a prequel comic that’s written by Jonathan Tropper, a creator and writer of Banshee. The comic will be free of charge in two parts (one available now, and the other coming at the mid-season point). It tells the story of the show’s two main characters, Lucas and Carrie, fifteen years prior to the start of the show’s storyline. The comic will be available at retail comic shops and also across digital platforms.
